Intelligence, Being Smart, and Hardwork

I'm the girl many people in school consider smart. I'm not naturally intelligent. I'm hardworking and dedicated. I don't think people understand what it means to do well in school anymore; people are beginning to believe you are predestined to be smart or not but that is not the case at all. This causes many people not to work hard at all, because they believe they have no chance to be smart. For some people, yes of course they are naturally smart, they are born with an ability to learn at a higher level. For the majority of us including myself, we must work extremely hard to learn and get the highest grades. If you are serious about doing well in school no matter who you are you can get the highest grades by staying dedicated to your studies. It may not be the most fun thing to do, but you can not give up on it. I just want everyone out there to realize that with hardwork anyone can be intelligent and earn high marks in school. It is not limited to a small group of people, but knowledge is open to everyone and it is up to you to decide whether or not you will take it seriously and take all the information you are given in school and submerge yourself in it.
With all of that said of course grades aren't everything. You are worth so much more than the grades you get and the classes you take, so you can not let that control your life. But that cannot be a reason for you to give up on school. Knowledge is power. Focus on learning the information over memorizing for the test. The information may seem pointless now, but you never know how it could help you in the future. Even if you don't end up with the grades to go to your dream school; you should realize that all colleges are great today and you can end up with a great education no matter where you go if you apply yourself.
Eductation is crucial today, so don't throw it all away with the crazy idea that you aren't smart, because anyone can be intelligent if they are willing to work for it.

Finding my place and helping you find yours

I recently went on 3 college tours and I can't believe how much they taught me about my self and where I see myself in 2 short years. I visited Duke, Wake Forest, and UNC Chapel Hill. Wake Forest was my overwhelming favorite because of the small population and intimate campus. It was everything I pictured college to be. When I went there I knew it was the one and I knew I wanted to go there. You truly know as soon as you enter the campus whether you LOVE it, it's ok or not for you. I felt all three of those that weekend. Duke was a gorgeous school, but not for me and UNC was just too big. Wake Forest was the perfect balance of everything I wanted and I can't get it out of my head no matter how hard I try. I find myself flipping through pictures of the campus on my phone all the time and I can't wait to plan a trip to go back. Everything about it made me feel comfortable and at home. All I can hope is that everyone out there is attending or finds a school they love that much, because It's the greatest feeling in the world. It makes you feel complete and it makes all the long hours studying for tests and volunteering worth it. I encourage all highschoolers to simply get out there and tour any university you think you may want to go to, because tours are free and it really helps you realize your goals and helps you feel more confident about the often scary future ahead. You may not find the perfect school at first, but you just got to keep looking and establishing what you want in a university. As great as it is to feel that sense of finding your place at a school; you need to realize it may not work out and you need to have back up options that you would be just as happy at. Just because I love Wake Forest does not mean I am stopping my college search. I am headed to Vaderbilt in 2 weeks and Emory in November.

If you are stuck on where to start, here are some questions you can ask yourself when looking at colleges websites:
1)Is it Small(Under 10,000) or Big(Over 10,000?
2)Does it have majors that interest you?
3)Does it have greek life? Is greek life important to you?
4)Does it have sports teams? Do you care about having a football team?
5)Do you care if you have big classes? Check percentage of classes with less than 30 people or student to teacher ratio.
6)Can you get in there? Look at requirements and acceptance rate.
7)How far away is it? Is it to close or too far?
8)How much does it cost? How much aid does it offer to most students?
9)What's the student body like? Majority in state, out of state, international?
10)Public or Private?

Don't get caught up in what other people may say about that college and focus on forming your own opinions of it. Everyone views schools differently, because everyone has differnet wants and needs for their college. Never settle and don't ever go somewhere, because all your friends are going. Chase your dreams and follow your heart.

My Go To Fall Outfit and a Realization

Fall is quickly nearing and I wanted to share one of my go to fall transition outfits. It is not near cold weather here in Georgia, but a tank paired with some jeans or cords, a cute necklace and some flats is the perfect outfit! I've been loving the tassel necklace trend paired with basic tees and tanks to jazz up an otherwise simple outfit. I love these cranberry flats from J.Crew Factory and this camel colored Crossbody from Fossil are both simple but so unique. You honestly can't go wrong with this classic yet chic combination. I can't wait for fall to truly start so I can break out the sweaters and deep fall tones.
Tank: J.Crew Factory
Cords: J.Crew Factory
Necklace: Brina Box
Purse: Fossil

Life is Precious
Life is so incredibly precious. It can be taken away just as easily as it is given to you. The past few days I realized how important it is that you are always kind and that you make sure you are making a positive impact in peoples life. You never know how close someone is to their breaking point. One word you say could alter the rest of their life and yours. Life always gets better. It hits hard points and at those points you need to find friends and family that can support, encourage, and pull you through. These points won’t last forever and before you know it you will be on to the best parts of your life. Today your in high school and your whole life lies ahead of you. The best is yet to come. I think this quote really puts this in perspective: Just when the caterpillar thought the world was over it became a butterfly. Life may seem tough and you may think you can’t get through it, but after that you will succeed and become a beautiful person that can  do anything.

Cute School Supplies & Advice on Grades

So I know most of us are back to school and while we may be dreading wakingup in the morning, we shouldm't dread using our school supplies! I wanted to share some of my favorite things I have gotten/created for school.

Cute, Bow pencil pouch from Francescas. It's the perfect size.

These are  two of my favorite binder cover ideas. I got the patterns from Pinterest, and just typed the classes on using Microsoft Word. I love them, because they are much more unique and personalized to me.

My Kate Spade Agenda is my love. It has the perfect amount of room to right things that I need to do and plan all the major events in my life. How can you resist stripes and polka dots?

Now I just wanted to talk about how I made my composition books. I got basic composition books from Offic depot, but then used fun paper and monogram stickers to make them my own. I can easily point them out in a group and plus they are totally my style.

Don't Let Grades Get You Down
I'm assuming almost everyone is back at school now and if not back yet is very close to starting. I have been back for about 3 weeks, and have already had several tests and quizzes and I have received some grades I'm ecstatic about and others I wish I could hide under a rock. Whether you have the hardest course load possible or a fairly easy one, bad grades are going to come and you have to be prepared to react to them. You can not start crying, because you failed an assignment. You can't let it faze you; you have to tell yourself, I may not have done my best on this assignment, but I will do better on the next. And then actually work harder the next time, spend 10 minutes extra to studying or try a new study technique. The important thing to remember is that there are other assignments, this will not be the only grade you ever get. Teachers will give you many more opportunities to prove your knowledge and that one bad grade will slowly become forgotten. This was my philosophy last year and I got all A's in honors and 2 AP classes. Don't give up hope or stop trying, because you get one bad grade. There is always a way to improve and get better, but it will require extreme work and dedication. I know we all have sports and clubs that occupy are time outside of school, but thats where organization and planning come into play(look for a post coming really soon). My main point is that even straight A students get F's sometimes and you can't let that ruin your day or your overall drive. You have to keep moving, keep pushing forward and if your grades aren't exactly what you want work a little harder. You will get the grade that you deserve in the end, just let the education system play itself out.

Life and Style Update

Lovely Jems and Jewels:

I found this necklace from Leopard and Latte Inc. and I can just not stop wearing it! The colors work perfectly with many outfits, colors, and patterns. Plus I have really been in love with the look of very long necklaces, plus the tassel look is very in right now, but it is also something that is very my style. Shirt: Ralph Lauren  Watch: Kate Spade  Necklace: Etsy

I felt inspired to share an important topic that impacts myself as well as many people all over the country and world.
My Views on Perfection:
Sometimes I think about the impact that I am having on others, because often I get comments telling me that I live the "perfect life". As I wonder exactly what the "perfect life" is I question if the way that I am portraying myself and people are perceiving me is putting others down, making them feel worse about themselves; it's a subconscious way of carrying myself that I can't help but describe as anything but growing up with manner and class, but also being extremely introverted, blocking all negative emotions and thought in. Sure, I get good grades, dress well, am involved, and am kind to others, but little do these people know anything but my surface value. I have struggles, fights, and negative emotions. On the outside I may drive a shiny car, wear cute clothes, and get an A on the test, but inside my mind I constantly feel emotions that people from the outside would never know. Things that some people are always showing on the outside but I am holding in. I don't allow people to get close to me and I block out my feelings from really coming through. Just because I hide these emotions doesn't mean I never cry or get angry or stressed. It doesn't mean I never fail a test or miss an event. It means when I do I block out the emotion and put on a smile until I get home and am alone to let it all out. I have downfalls: friendship is the hardest thing in the world for me, stress gets to me all the time. Sometimes I think I am trying to make this perceiving "perfection" a reality. I want people to realize that "perfection" does not exists and will never exists. No one's life is any easier than any one else's. We all have different struggles and battles and flaws that we are constantly trying to fight and adapt to to make the best possible out of the situation. The truth is for every imperfection you find you can find a million wonderful things about yourself. There is no reason to ever feel as if you don't compare, because yes, everyone is different and no one is comparable to you. Focus on what you can learn from others.

Fitness Style

Lately I have been really into fitness. I think it not only is really good for you, but it makes you feel better. I usually run or do the elliptical and then some ab and arm exercises. It is not to difficult or time consuming, so it works for me.
Tank: Gap
Fitness Tracker: Fit Bit Zip
Shorts: Nike
Sports Bra: Nike
Shoes: Nike

One of my favorite fitness appliances is my Fit Bit Zip, because it allows you to track your everyday steps, mileage, and calories burned. It also can track your exercise, food, and water intake.  It's only $50, and is very easily camouflauged during the day so you are not showing it off unless you want to.

Summer Lovin'

Top: Old Navy
Necklace: From a local boutique(one that would look just as good)
Shoes: Jack Rogers

I think this outfit is one of the favorite ones I have ever put together. I love the coral and turquiose combo just as much as I love pink and navy(and that is a lot). This shirt looks great with shorts or pants and you can even top it off with a sweater for chilly summer nights. And how can you go wrong with basic black chino shorts.

Hope you are having a great week and can't wait to share my outfit with you tomorrow!

Welcome to My Well Dressed Life

My name's Ashley and this is my life. I want to share with you my style and fashion, but also my life experiences. I like to think I have a preppy style, because I love classic clothes but with more color. My dream is to become a lawyer. I play tennis and am very involved in commmunity service organizations at my school.

My blog will have 4 main componenets: my style, my inspiration, my life, and my tips. There will be series inside of those that I will do for a short period or time or every week, so stay tuned and keep up with those. I will try to post every single day in one of those categories.

So welcome to my life,  check out my posts and stay a while. I'd love to get to know you and interact with you.
