Summer Essentials + My Go-To Summer Outfit

I'm so excited to share today's post, it is a collaboration about one of my favorite things with one of my favorite bloggers, Desirae from The Lonestar Prep. We both are sharing our summer essentials and our go-to summer outfit! Finish reading my post and then head over and check out Desirae's post as well.
Sunglasses: Sunglasses are not only important for protecting your eyes, but they also make the perfect summer accessory. They are often just the extra thing an outfit needs.
Swimsuit: It's always great to have a fun new swimsuit for summer!
Sunscreen: This is my favorite sunscreen for my face. I use it almost every day during the summer to help protect my skin, it is one of the most important things you can do for your future skin.
Bangles: I love to wear my Alex and Ani bangles in the summer because they add a fun touch, but they are not heavy. I love to wear them with shorts, dresses, and even swimsuits. They are my go-to summer accessory.
Hat: I used to hate hats, but this year I fell in love with hats. They protect your face from the sun, but they also make a super cute addition to any summer outfit.
Smart Water: It is very important to stay hydrated during the summer. I love Smart Water because I feel like the electrolytes give me a little strength and energy, though it is probably all in my head.
Book: My summer is always filled with books, I read by the pool, the lake, and sometimes I will spend the whole day reading. If you are looking for a book, check out my recommendations here.

My Go-To Summer Outfit

Bracelets: Alex and Ani (Initial & Key)
Ring: From Grandma (Similar)

Everyone needs an outfit that is super cute and can be pulled out of your closet on a moments notice when you need to rush out. I had to rush out to an early breakfast at school, and this outfit was absolutely perfect. For me, I always gravitate to a plain white top with printed shorts. I love this J.Crew Factory flutter sleeve top because it is solid white, but it has some super fun detailing with the sleeves. These shorts are definitely one of my favorite summer purchases, they are classic, but yet the polka dots create interest. I always add my favorite Alex and Ani bangles and some fun colorful Palm Beach Sandals.

I'd love to hear about your summer essentials and your go-to summer outfit, leave me a comment or connect with me on social media! Also, don't forget to check out Desirae's post!

Pretty in Purple

Yesterday was my senior honors night and I thought it would be fun to share what I wore. You may recognize the dress I wore, I first spoke about it in this post about my favorite spring dresses. I found this gorgeous maxi dress from J.Crew Factory and thought it was perfect since one of my school's colors is purple. This is the first maxi dress I have ever owned and I loved styling it. Because of the amethyst color, I kept it really simple just paired with some gold accesories and loved the look!
Bracelets: Alex and Ani(Key // Initial)

I recieved my school's Beta Club scholarship as well as the local Kiwanis Club scholarship! I feel so honored to see the impact that I have had on my school, I absolutely have loved being a part of these clubs and can't believe I will not be involved in them next year. These clubs really allowed me to find myself in high school(read more here) and I am so thankful for that.

I hope you enjoyed this post, it was kind of a mixture of fashion and lifestyle. Let me know what you thought about it. Also, leave me a comment with a post you would like to see this summer!

Failed Plans

As I finish up my last high school final today, I wanted to write a post about one of the most important lessons I learned in high school which is that sometimes plans fail. The key word here is "sometimes" because a lot of your plans will go on right as you wanted. You'll be successful and you will reach your goals. The other key word is "plans" because failed plans do not make you a failed person or that you failed at reaching your goal. Failed plans simply mean that you need to head on a different path. The thing I learned is that failed plans are not bad because they force you on a different path. Sometimes the path is what makes all the difference in your life. It makes you grow as a person, it makes you who you are supposed to be. Though the path may not be what you want at that moment, it is exactly what you need at that moment. Every year I set plans to make all A's in school. The last 2 years no matter how hard I tried I could not get an A in 2 of my classes. As a girl who had always gotten A's, after my first B, I thought my life was falling apart. But getting that B and struggling to get the B taught me a work ethic as well as taught me that perfection is not necessary. I learned that this one failed plan did not stop me from reaching my goal. I still was accepted to my dream school, but more than that I now know that as I enter college that I am more capable of doing the work. I know I will struggle at some point in my college career, I will not be perfect but thanks to my trials in high school I have learned to be perfectly ok with that. So when you are faced with some trials that leave you feeling like your life is falling apart remember that failed plans simply force you in the direction you need to need to go.

To the Class of 2016

I recently got done writing my farewell speech for my lit class and it hit me that I will be graduating in just a few short weeks. I'm so thankful for the person that I have become and it is all thanks to the amazing opportunities and people that I have met throughout my time in high school, whether it was a life-changing class, a trip to California, an awesome teacher or a club that allowed me to discover my passion.  I am so filled with mixed emotions, and I can't help shed a tear every time I experience a "last". I wanted to share my farewell speech with you all, as well as a few videos that have brought me comfort in this time of year. I want to encourage all of you to write your own farewell speech as I feel it is the perfect way to close off this chapter of your life and prepare for your bright future ahead, think of it as the graduation speech that most people never get to write.

My Farewell Speech:
I entered high school confused about who I was and what my place in this school would be. I didn't know what I wanted to be involved in or who I wanted to hang out with. My freshman year I was plagued with this confusion, I was worried about everything. As a result, it was my least enjoyable year. My sophomore year I found Key Club, most people have never heard of Key club but that was ok with me. For me, it was the club that helped me find myself because it introduced me to community service. As a result, I fell in love with helping others. I finally had discovered my passion and what I wanted to do with my free time. My involvement with Key Club only grew, and that is what I’m most thankful to Key Club for, for pushing me out of my comfort zone, for giving me the leadership roles and for forcing me out of my shell. As a result, I have met amazing people and got to do wonderful things to help others. My sophomore year I decided to join the tennis team, thanks to one of my friends. Despite my lack of athletic ability, she let me take lessons with her and helped me to fall in love with the sport. Tennis will always be special to me not only because it introduced me to a group of amazing girls and a loving coach, but because it brought me back to my best friend. The girl I met when I first moved here in 3rd grade, who I was friends with for several years before I was stupid and lost her. I was reunited with her, and I knew it was for a reason. Little did I know by my senior year she would become my best friend, the girl I can trust with anything. The girl I will be crushed to leave in just 3 short months. My junior year tested me academically as I struggled through classes like AP physics and US history. I learned getting a B is ok, and failing an AP exam stinks but it is not the end of the world. I learned everything is not going to be perfect. So my mission for senior year was simply to live in the moment, to enjoy everything, football games, prom, sleepovers with my friends, even oral reading checks.  And I’m happy to say I accomplished that. As I say my goodbyes to this school and prepare to move 300 miles away to Winston-Salem, North Carolina in the fall I want to thank North Forsyth High school for being everything a high school should be. A place with wonderful teachers, friendly students, abundant opportunities, and most importantly a place that gives you the ability to discover who you truly are.

Videos I Love:

I hope this post brought a little comfort to all of you graduating seniors, like me!

My Senior Prom: Renting a dress!

I recently had my senior prom; it was so much fun dancing the night away with my best friends! But of course being the fashion blogger that I am I wanted to share what I wore. I rented my dress from Rent the Runway, it is the Shoshanna Hailey Gown. I had previously rented a dress for Homecoming from Rent the Runway, so when prom came along I checked their website and fell in love with this dress. Once I got the dress I fell even more in love! I wish I could keep it because I never wanted to take it off. Rent the Runway makes renting a dress so easy and hassle free, plus you can get an expensive looking dress with only paying a fraction of the price. Rent the Runway sends you two different sizes to ensure the perfect fit; I ordered both the 0 and the 2. I ended up wearing the 0, the dress was only slightly long, and it was not an annoyance at all. I wore my gold Palm Beach Sandals with my dress. I loved it because they are comfortable and you can leave them on so your feet don't get dirty.
This dress is so perfectly me!

Love my family and friends!

Another fun note, I got my hair done at the Dry Bar! I loved it! I got the southern comfort and I am so in loved with how it turned out; I'm trying to convince my mom to let me go back before graduation!

It's so fun to spend the day being pampered. I'm so glad I went to prom, I can't believe my high school memories are almost over. I hope this post was helpful!
