Summer Black

Black has become one of my favorite colors, since I was accepted to Wake Forest because it is one of our school colors. As a result, I have been buying a lot of the color for game days and just for everyday. I thought it would be so fun to share two of my favorite outfits for summer that involve the color black. Both are super casual and cute for summer days. The first one I wore on one of our many days of orientation and the second is what I wore for the first day of classes! I have been pretty busy the last few days of college, but having a great time and looking forward to getting back into a routine.

Top: Old Navy
Bag: Madewell
Shoes: Jack Rogers

Dress: Old Navy
Bracelet: Georgie Designs
Backpack: North Face

I hope you all enjoyed this post!  Thankfully, me and my friend Elisabeth from Tall and Preppy have been able to take blog pictures for one another while away at college. So you can definitely look for more outfit posts coming to the blog this semester! This post was a little different for me since I'm usually really in to the color navy. Let me know do you like black or navy more?

Dorm Gallery Wall + 3 Free Printables

There is something about dorm walls that is just so boring. I knew after browsing Pinterest for dorm ideas that a gallery wall would be perfect for helping me jazz up the wall by my bed. I struggled through tons of online printables looking for ones that would match my room, but to know avail. As a result, I decided to make 3 of my own, and I thought why not share them with all of you. The first one is actual not on my gallery wall, but on my desk instead. These are pretty color specific, but if you are going for a kelly green and navy theme these are perfect!

If you are interested in making your own, I would suggest browsing online and downloading some pretty fonts. Then open a word document and design away. I used things I saw on Pinterest or Etsy for inspiration. As for my dorm room, once I got there my gallery wall didn't work out exactly like I thought, but I made it work! And I think it turned out really well, I love all the different frames and textures!

Other Prints I Used:

Other Details:
The white frames are from Ikea.
The big gold frame is from Hobby Lobby.
The two other gold ones are from Home Goods.
The big A is from Kirklands.

Have you ever done a gallery wall? I think they are perfect for dorm rooms or anywhere with a large blank space! I hope this was a fun post and that it got you excited for my dorm tour coming next week!

Tutoring: Do I Need it & How to Find it

At some point during the year you may find yourself not doing as well in a class as you might think you could or should be doing. As a result you may start to wonder about what you can do to get your grade up. I think tutoring is an under used service. I think people are worried people will make fun of them for getting tutoring or they simply don't know where to look for tutoring.

I used a professional tutor once in my high school career for Spanish in 10th grade because I was really struggling and knew I could do better. I went to my teacher but she wasn't able to give me the help I needed, so I needed to look elsewhere. I found that the best thing about a tutor is that they really force you to sit down and study for a solid hour without distractions. She helped me to identify the things I was struggling with and practice them over and over. It turned out after a few sessions I was feeling so much better and no longer needed a tutor.

Do I Need it:
I think if you want to do better in a class but have not been able to accomplish it on your own than you should get a tutor. If you are doing the homework and studying but still are not doing well than that may indicate you need a little extra help.  If you are thinking about it than just go ahead and try a session. You'll be amazed at how much it can help you. Sometimes you just need someone from the outside to help you get focused.

How to Find it:
Ask your teacher or check your school website. I found my Spanish tutor on my school's website, but I know many teachers know past students or teachers from other school's that tutor. Your school may also have a tutoring program set up where students come at a certain time during the day and will help you, such as during study hall. The best tutors are usually students who just took the class or teachers from another school in the county. Students usually charge less and if they had the same teacher as you may be able to give you useful personalized tips. I find another teacher can be really helpfully because they may teach from a different perspective than your teacher.

Just because you need a tutor does not mean that you are dumb. Even the smartest people have areas of weakness where they need help. And I believe the brightest people are those that are not afraid to get help when they need it! If you are struggling seek out help. If you all have any questions about tutoring I would be happy to answer just comment down below!

Back to School

I've been struggling a little bit lately with what to post on my blog. That's why this post is going up today and not yesterday. I guess I've just been having a little bit of writers block but also struggling with what I want this blog to be. As a result I thought I would create a blog survey so I can get a little bit of feedback on what you all would want on the blog. The survey should take less than 10 minutes, and I would really appreciate your feedback!

I know almost everyone is back to school or headed back soon, so I thought I would compile on my back to school posts in one post so you an just click on the ones that interest you and read them!

Tips for a Happy Morning

Waking up for school can be difficult sometimes(or all the time). I find it can sometimes be hard to keep a good attitude while being forced to wake up at 6 or 7. As a result, I thought it would be a really helpful post to share some tips on how to have a happy and positive morning!
1. Plan Ahead
Do the things that you know you won't want to do in the morning the night before, whether it is making your lunch, picking out your clothes, or packing up your school supplies. Plus getting things done the night before will allow you to sleep in a little bit more.

2. Don't Hit the Snooze
Wake up when you are supposed to wake up. Usually the longer you sleep the worse you feel, so just bite the bullet and get out of bed.

3. Eat a Good Breakfast
It's not a lie when people say breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Eat breakfast and I guarantee you will feel so much better throughout the day. It can be something really simple, I love to just eat toast or a bagel with some fruit.

4. Play Some Music
While getting ready I love to play the Sunday Morning Pop playlist on Apple Music! I think some fun music just helps to get you pumped for the day!

5. Plan Your Day
I like to plan my day the night before, but then go over the things I need to do that day in the morning! It helps keep me focused on what I need to accomplish and helps to frame a productive day.

Let me know what your tips are for having a happy morning. I think a really great morning can make your day so much more productive and happy!

DIY School Supplies: Notebooks, Pencils, and More

Today I am sharing 4 fun DIYs with all of you. I am definitely not good at crafts, so all of these are super easy! No need to break the bank because these school supplies will keep your school supplies cute but still affordable. But if these 4 DIYs are not enough, this is a collab with Sarah from Simply Sarah Rose, so check out her post for even more fun projects!

DIY #1: Polka-Dot Painted Pencils
I love these pencils! They are so fun because you can personalize them with whatever colors you want. Plus the fun colors and print will help to give you a little morale boost on your next test!

What you need: Hole Reinforcements, Pencils, Paint(2-3 colors), Mod Podge, Paint Brushes
*Note: I bought the pencils with the plastic design on the outside and then just peeled the plastic off

1) Place the hole reinforcements sporadically throughout the pencil(the more the better, I think!)

2) Paint only the hole of the reinforcements

3) Let dry for 30 min

4) Peel the reinforcements off

5) Seal with mod podge(optional but will help the design to stay better and look nicer)

6) Use for the next big test or everyday!

DIY #2: Scrapbook Paper Notebook
Want the look of those cute notebooks you see at Target but don't want to pay the ridiculously high price. If so then DIY #2 is the perfect one for you! It's even personalizable with your class name.

What you need: Notebook, Scrapbook Paper, Label(Print Here), Mod Podge, Brush

1) Prepare label, either print with your class name or write it in after printing. I used this label!

2) Cut scrapbook paper to fit notebook size, I traced it

3) Put mod podge all over the front of the notebook using a brush

4) Place the scrapbook paper down

5) Let dry for a few minutes

6) Place mod podge on the back of the label, and place label on notebook(you can measure it or just wing it like I did)

7) Let dry overnight

8) Mod podge over the top of the notebook to seal the paper in and prevent it from getting torn off

9) Done!

DIY #3: Painted Stripe Notebook
This is a simple way to make your notebook look clean and chic. Five Star has the best notebooks, but they never come in fun prints. This DIY can help make them look great!

What you need: Notebook, Painters Tape, Paint, brush, Mod Podge
*Note: I suggest getting a notebook with as few words and labels on it as possible

1) Use painters tape to make stripes on the notebook, I measured using the tape because it was a good width , but if not you could use a ruler.

2) Place painters tape on back of cover to cover the open holes so paint will not go through them

3) Paint!

4) Let dry for an hour

5) Remove Tape

7) Wait overnight and then mod podge over the whole cover

8) Look oh so cute in class!

DIY #4: To-do Frame
DIY #4 is by far the easiest one. But it is great for reminding yourself of things going on. Just place it on your desk and update it every week with what is going on!

What you need: Scrapbook paper, Frame, Dry Erase Marker

1) Take the glass out of the frame if possible(if not just use a ruler and measure) and trace it on scrapbook paper

2) Cut it out

3) Place in frame

4) Write whatever you need to remind yourself of

I hope you enjoyed this post; it is a little bit different but was fun to put together. Don’t forget to check out Sarah’s post as well. And if you make any of these please share them with me on Instagram, Twitter, or Email! If you have any questions about what I did or used, please don't be afraid to ask!
