How I Organize my College Life

I'm so excited to write this post because I absolutely love organization and have found my organization system to be working really well for me! I know for some people this whole system may be intense, I use upwards of 4 calendars, but you can always just take away and use whatever aspects appeal to you. This system definitely took some initial time at the beginning to get going, but now I spend very little time on it. Alright, so bear with me as we get going on this probably fairly long post!

Color Coding
The first thing I suggest doing before all else is to assign colors to everything that is a big part of your life. For example, I assigned each of my classes, my blog, personal, work, and general school events a color. I chose blue for my religion class, so now everything regarding religion is in blue. This really helps you to stay organized and if you want to take it up a notch I suggest matching the colors you chose for your classes to the notebook/binder for that class.

Desk Calendar
Why I love it: This is probably the most simple calendar I use. I just really like it because I like to be able to see the whole month laid out and what big things I have going on. I also use colored pens that correspond with my colors to label things!
What I use it for: So on this calendar I put things like football games, school events, visitors, days off, etc. I also like to cross through the days as I go, I'm not sure why it is just something I've always done! So it also serves as a count down in a way.
When I plan with it: At the beginning of the month I write down everything that I know is going on and then update it as new things come up.
Plus it hangs on my desk so it is great to reference while doing homework!

Apple Calendar
Why I love it: I love using an online calendar, because if you have your phone you can always check it. It is great for when you are making plans with someone and don't want to pull out your full planner. It is also great because you can see many different views: monthly, weekly, and daily.
What I use it for: I put pretty much every planned event in here: class, events, work, meetings, etc. I like this because you can easily see when you have time to fit in that hour at the gym or more realistically that trip to the mall.
When I plan with it: This requires a lot of initial time putting in all of your stuff but you can make things recurring so it requires little maintenance later on.
Not going to lie the monthly view stresses me out a lot, so I hardly ever use it.
This is the view that I am using 99% of the time. It is so easy to look out and helps me see what blocks of time I have to do different things.
I don't usually use the daily view because you can see it pretty well in the weekly view, but  it is nice to have!

Why I love it: I have the Day Designer planner so it has an hourly schedule and a to-do list for each day. I use both obsessively.
What I use it for: My hourly schedule has everything. I write when I'm going to eat meals, go to class, do homework, do laundry, etc. EVERYTHING, I spare no detail in planning out my day. I fill in every hour of my day because for me that helps me to be productive. If I know I have to do something at this time than I get it done and don't mess around! The to-do list is also great, again I write everything: from go get mail to post an Instagram to homework assignments. The Day Designer  also allows you to pick a top 3, which are the three most important things to accomplish that day which helps to keep you on track and prioritize when you have a lot going on.
When I plan with it: I usually try to update my Day Designer for the next day before I go to bed and if not definitely in the morning before class.
Check out my full post on the Day Designer here!
Why I love it: I decided to create this thing that I like to call the mega-syllabus at the beginning of the semester. Basically I put everything from the syllabus for each class on to one giant word document. This keeps everything together so you don't always have to flip through your syllabi. I find that I love this the most because it allows me to see everything I need to do that week and plan how I will accomplish it.
What I use it for: Each classes assignments are written in the designated color. On the day I'll either write the assignment that is due or the homework that I need to do for the class. For example, if I have politics reading due Wednesday and it is a Monday/Wednesday class I write the assignment on Monday.
When I plan with it: It takes a lot of initial time to type everything in, but once you do you really don't have to do anything. I also like to use the cross through feature on word to strike through the things when I accomplish them.
Here are the first 3 full weeks school. You can see the different assignments in the different colors and how I struck through them when I accomplished them.
Printable Calendar
What I use it for: I also decided to print out another calendar which has when all my tests, papers, and other assignments that need to be turned in are due!
Why I love it: I think this is great because it lets you see when your busy weeks are and also lets you just have another reminder of when the important things are done.
When I plan with it: At the beginning of the semester I went ahead and printed out and wrote down all the important things. So now unless things change it is done.

I know this seems probably insane and overkill to most of you, but to me it has really helped to keep me organized and actually has helped me to get ahead on a lot of my work. I'm not saying this will work for everyone, but I hope some part of this was helpful for you! I also tried to show you that planning your day out does not have to be a big time consuming thing, just a little bit each day is enough! If you have any questions at all please comment down below!

Pink Popover

Shirt: J.Crew Factory(Similar)
Jeans: Levi's
Shoes: Target
Watch: Kate Spade

I LOVE this outfit, mostly because I absolutely love this shirt. I think the colors are so fun and popovers are my all time favorite style of shirts. They are so easy and so fun to style. I also wanted to add a quick little anecdote about my week, somehow this week I got really far ahead on all my work. I got so much homework done Monday and it has really made my week so much less stressful. It's been nice to be able to focus on things with my blog and just other things in life. As well as getting some assignments for the future done to hopefully make subsequent weeks less stressful as well. I realized that I was able to do this because I have developed a really good organization strategy. It has really helped me to be successful this week and the 3 prior weeks of college. As a result, I decided to share it all with you all! I'll be sharing my planner, my calendar, my mega-syllabus, everything!! If you can't tell I'm really excited, so make sure that you check out tomorrow's post!

It is so cute and comfy and perfect for the fall transition days. I know that I will definitely be wearing this shirt all fall long. Also, in other exciting news I just found out today that I am going to be working at the Ronald McDonald House this school year and I could not be more excited. It is going to be a time commitment so bear with me as I work out my schedule with the addition of my job! I do see a lot of great blog post potential in the future with how to balance work and school as well as some fun posts about the Ronald McDonald House and what they do. 5 Things I'm Glad I Learned Before College

I'm not going to lie, college has been a bit of an adjustment. The classes are difficult and it takes some time to find the right balance. There are definitely a lot of things that I have learned since being here(blog post on that soon), but there are also some things I learned before coming here that have really served me well. As a result, I thought I would share them with all of you!

1. Getting a bad grade is not the end of the world
Obviously no one wants to get a bad grade ever, but I think no matter how smart you are they are inevitable at some point. Your first failing grade can really crush your spirit, and I think it is good to know how to quickly cope with bad grades before coming to college. Because sulking all day or considering dropping a class just because of one bad grade is not something that you have time for in college.

2. Sometimes you have to say no
You need time for yourself in college and you also need time for your school work. sometimes to make sure that these two priorities are fulfilled you have to be able to say no to some social events. Whether its deciding not to go out to dinner so you can finish your history reading or saying no to the movie on Friday night because you really just need some time alone in your room. Don't say no all the time(Have fun!) but if your mental state or academics are on the line, say no!

3. School work comes before social events
This is pretty similar, but when it comes to that party or your homework due Monday; I hope you know which one you need to choose. I think I chose school a little too much in high school, but it really has served me well in keeping me focused in college!

4. Family is your rock
When you have a problem talk to your mom, when your sad talk to your mom, when your excited about an awesome activity talk to your mom. She will be there to support and guide you no matter what. I was very much a family girl in high school, and am finding I can keep that up in college by talking to my family daily. Getting to hear about their days makes me feel as if I never left.

5. Plan your day
This is saving my butt. I plan everything, not just when I have to be at class or a meeting, but when I am going to eat and when I'm going to study. This helps me to stay so much more productive. I use the hourly planner in my Day Designer, and usually write as much out as I can the night before. But the calendar that comes on the iPhone is great as well for this.

I hope these tips were helpful! If you love the outfit featured above make sure to check back tomorrow for all the details!

Swinging into Fall

 Top: J.Crew Factory (Similar)
Pants: Levi's
Shoes: Old Navy
Watch: Kate Spade

All I can say is YAY it is finally starting to feel like fall in North Carolina! It is supposed to be in the 70's all this week and I could not be more excited. I'm so ready for puffer vests, button ups, and comfy sweaters. I thought this outfit was very fun with the pop of orange in the sandals. But I would also totally wear this outfit with just some black or gold flats for a super chic look! I've realized that I've actually been dressing in much more, black, white and gray in college. So I've been trying to add some pops of color in wherever I can! I'm going to get back into some more advice type posts this week, since I know you all really like them, and I miss writing them. But I really hope you've been enjoying seeing my outfits! If you have any post you want to see I would love to add  them to my list, so let me know in the comments below.

What's in my Backpack

Happy Friday! Today I wanted to share what I keep in my backpack; the things I need for a successful day in classes and then heading to study afterwords. I absolutely love my backpack this year, it is the North Face Jester and I think it is the perfect size. It always fits everything I need and is never heavy or bulky. Plus I think the solid black is simple and chic for college, though I do sometimes miss the bright colors of my pink and green backpack I had in high school. I'm not going to go in depth as to what exact school supplies I use and what for as I will do that in a separate post!

Planner: Day Designer
Text Books
Computer: Apple Macbook Pro(Case from Target)
Pencil Pouch: Target
Umbrella: Target

I hope you enjoyed seeing what I keep in my backpack! Obviously it changes day to day based on what classes I have and what homework I need to get done. Let me know what essentials you keep in your backpack, am I missing anything?

Summer Dots

So I thought that I was done with summer outfits, but then it decided to get really hot in North Carolina. As a result, I couldn't help but pull out some shorts and enjoy a few more days of summer!  If I'm being completely honest I was wearing a long sleeve top with this outfit for the majority of the day, but I had to change because I spilt ice-cream on my shirt at lunch. If you know me at all than you know this is not shocking at all, haha. But good thing I love this outfit just as much with this adorable polka dot tank!

Top: Nordstrom (Similar)
Shoes: Jack Rogers
Necklace: Love Always

I hope you enjoyed this outfit! I know it is a little bit summery, but it's definitely a perfect outfit for those warm days leading up to fall. What's the temperature where you live? Let me know in the comments.

College Life Update: 9/11-9/17

Hi guys! The last week of college has been very busy and for my own sake I really wanted to document it on the blog. I did a lot of school work, got sick, went to a football game, and had some visitors all within a few days!

Sunday: 9/11
Dorm tour here
I decided to let Sunday be a really relaxing day. I'm not going to lie I stayed in my dorm room for a good part of the day just having some me time. As an introvert I have found myself really needing to find time to myself in college, and this was the perfect opportunity. I did some homework that afternoon and then went on a rush date! It went really well, and was the perfect bit of socialization after a chill day spent to myself.

Monday: 9/12
Day Designer Planner details here
Mondays are always busy for me, but this Monday was extra busy! I have three classes all spread out throughout the day spanning from 9-3, so most of my day was spent in class. Then once I was done with class I did homework for a couple hours before heading on another rush date! This one was with a girl from my Spanish class and it was really nice to get to know her more.  After dinner I headed to a Circle K meeting which is a community service club that I'm really excited to get involved with! That night I had to finish up a Spanish project.

Tuesday: 9/13
Tuesday was a little bit stressful, I started the day in Spanish where I accidentally did the wrong homework. Thankfully my teacher was really understanding and let me turn it in during her office hours the same day. As a result, I had to head from my 11 o'clock class straight to my dorm to print and complete the homework assignment before my teachers office hours at 1. It all worked out and I was able to get it turned in. After lunch I headed to the library to get some work done. I tried to get a lot of work done in advance this week since my friend was coming to visit over the weekend.

Wednesday: 9/14
Wednesday was another busy day in terms of classes. I spent the majority of the day in class or running to class. That night I didn't have anything going on so I went to the library again and did some work for a little bit. My Wednesday was going really smoothly until all of a sudden I started not feeling too great. After going to the library for a little bit my nose wouldn't stop running and I was confident in that moment that I had caught the freshman plague. I went to sleep at 9 but slept really bad this night because I was being a cranky sick person and refused to get medicine.

Thursday: 9/15
Thursday morning after not feeling well at all I went and bought some DayQuil from the on campus shop. This helped a lot though my nose was still very stuffy. I went to my two classes and then sat outside the only place where I could breathe to try and get some things done. The medicine told me to take it every 4 hours, and so I took a dose at dinner and it killed my stomach. I went to sleep early agin with a stomach ache.

Friday: 9/16
Outfit Details here
Friday I only had one class which I sniffled through. I excitedly was awaiting my friend from home to get here as well as my dad. I spent the day working outside again trying to get as much work as possible done before they got here but it was difficult because I was not feeling well. As a result, I didn't get as much as I thought I would done. They got here around 6, and I took them on a tour of the campus. Then we headed out to dinner at a local restaurant which was super good. I loved getting to catch up with my friend. We came back to my room that night and relaxed since I wasn't feeling great.

Saturday: 9/17
Saturday I still wasn't feeling great but I put on a smiling face to take my friend to some of the fun spots around Wake. We headed to breakfast in the dining hall at 9 because the omelets are delicious. Then I took her on a tour of the library. After that we just sat outside and relaxed for a little bit before heading to lunch with one of my best friends on campus. It was so great to have my two friends meet each other. After that we headed to Reynolda Gardens which is always absolutely gorgeous. Then we did a little bit of homework, before heading to dinner. We ate a quick dinner and then headed to the football game. The football game was so fun and Wake Forest won!! We are 3-0 right now which is just unbelievable. It was really fun to cheer on the demon deacons to another victory!

I had an awesome week though it was definitely jam packed and had me wishing for a bit of time to myself on occasion. Especially since I was not feeling that well, thankfully I'm finally almost over my sickness. I hope you all enjoyed this post. If you did feel free to check out my first week of school post. Let me know something exciting you did last week!
