It's Okay to Like Going Out

Credit: Live Life Happy
I have to preface this post with a confession. Confession: I've been at college for two months and I just went to my first party this past weekend. I didn't go out for two reasons: I don't drink and my best friend had no interest in going out. So we stayed in on the weekends watching movies and going to bed by midnight. I walked back to my dorm as girls and guys went out in different themed apparel for the different parties that night. Sometimes I'd feel like I was missing out, but most of the time I just felt indifferent. It was just my life; I did things differently. I was a different person, but was that the person I wanted to be? This past Friday my perspective changed, my friend Elisabeth(you may know her as Tall & Preppy) made me realize that I was missing out. Talking to her I realized that I needed to give going out a try.

So I went out that night with a great group of girls(& even convinced my BFF to come) and had an amazing time. Even though I had to scramble for a costume and figure out what shoes I was willing to sacrifice to the frat sludge; it was probably one of the most fun nights of college so far. With that I realized something, I realized that it is okay to like to go out and dance and have fun on Friday night after a long week. That sometimes you need to do the thing you never thought you would. I guess the reason why I loved the party was because it was so different. It was such a change from everything I was used to. To me going to that party made it actually feel like a weekend, a break from all the constant school work. And somehow by something I may never understand dancing around in a hot, dark basement of a frat house I was happy.

But the problem is while I was extremely happy, later that night I also felt guilty. I felt like I should have hated it, it wasn't me. It did not define my personality. It wasn't the person my friends and family knew. I didn't want to become a different person. But a chat with my mom cleared everything up, she made me realize that it is okay to like to go out. That just because you go out doesn't mean that you have to be a different person. That you can still hold on to yourself and your personality.

So I guess my point in writing this is to say that going to parties doesn't make you a different person. Or more generally that picking up a new trait, a new hobby, a new interest doesn't change you.  I still act the same way and am still the person I have always been, I just may enjoy a party on the weekend. I think this weekend I realized the beauty of leaving your comfort zone. I did something different and realized that it was really something that I enjoyed.

Busy Days

Top: LOFT (Similar)
Jeans: Levi's
Shoes: Tory Burch(Similar)

The last two days have been some of the busiest days of college so far, but you really know that you love everything you are involved in when you don't mind doing any of it. Wednesday I got to partake in this fun campus event called Project Pumpkin in which local kids can come and trick or treat on the quad! It was so fun to get to take a local kid(mine was this adorable little girl) around to all the different booths to play games and get candy. I had a blast and was definitely sad when it ended. But then shortly after project pumpkin, I went to an event with WFU Style at a local boutique in Winston-Salem called Kleur. It was great to get to know some of the other girls in WFU Style as well as some local creatives. Then today I went to the Hillary Clinton and Michelle Obama rally that they held at our basketball stadium. Let me preface this by saying that I am not endorsing any presidential candidate or trying to make my blog at all political because that just is not something that I want to do. I think you should vote for the person that you believe in and that there is no right or wrong choice, and that it never hurts to be informed by the opposing side. I thought it was a once in a lifetime opportunity to hear both the current first lady and a presidential candidate(as well as past first lady) speak! Also, anyone who knows me knows that I have an obsession with first ladies, so I absolutely could not pass this up. I had a great time, but it definitely was a large part of my Thursday! It is also exciting because it is homecoming week and Halloween, so I know there will be lots of exciting things to come as well.

There is one other thing I wanted to talk about in this post and that is I feel I haven't been putting my full heart into my blog. I'm going to make it my mission this coming week to post content that I love. I look forward to writing some more posts with tips and advice because that is what I really love to write. I hope you all have a great weekend! Let me know if there are any posts you would like to see!

Cozy Fall Outfit

Sweater: Target
Pants: Levi's
Necklace: J.Crew Factory
Bracelet: Georgie Designs
Shoes: Lucky Brand

As you may have read in my last post, I went home for the weekend. I knew while at home I wanted to do some of the fun fall things that would be kind of difficult to do at school. My sister and I decided that it would be fun to paint pumpkins instead of carve them this year. As a result, we went to Hobby Lobby and bought lots of pretty paint colors and got to work. It actually took a lot longer than we were expecting, and we ended up blow drying them to get each layer of the paint to dry. But in the end, I absolutely love how mine turned out, and I decided it needed its very own photo shoot(such a blogger thing to do). So I took some cute pictures of it and with it and decided to share them with you. I really love the outfit that I was wearing, because it was cute but kept me warm on a chilly Georgia day. And I am not kidding about the sweater, it is the softest sweater I have ever owned and it's under $20. You literally can't go wrong, I recommend going to your local Target and buying all of the colors. I bought the black too, and it is the perfect affordable staple. I love them paired with a puffer vest for a super easy but cute outfit. Halloween is quickly approaching: are you carving, painting or decorating your pumpkins differently this year, let me know in the comments below!

The Comforts of Home

A week ago I would have never seen myself writing this post, but it's amazing what a visit home and some time to think can do for you. I admit it, I miss the comforts of home: I miss my mom giving me a hug after a long day, I miss sitting on the couch eating ice cream with my dad, I miss fighting over the radio as I drive my sister to school, I miss my dog sleeping outside my room. Sometimes I just wish I could have these little things back, these little moments that would help remind me that everything is going to be okay. Home is comfortable, everything about it is warm and fluffy. I just walk in and I feel relieved.

I cried, honestly cried for an hour yesterday in the car as I drove from home to school because I was leaving what was comfortable. I remembered how great it felt to be in a place that was just full of warmth. A place where I know I will be 100% loved and supported no matter what. And I had to go back to a place that was constantly challenging and pushing me. A place where most relationships are just beginning to form and things just were not guaranteed. I'm still trying to figure it all out here.

But I guess the thing is realizing that you need this step. That you need to leave that comfort of home, so that you can learn to create your own comfort. You have to learn to care for yourself. How will you make yourself feel better after a hard day? How will you reward yourself after a busy but successful week? You have to learn to find that comfort in yourself.

I don't want any of you to get the wrong impression from this post. I love college, and am so happy here. But the truth is that I'm realizing that while I can love it here, I can love home too. It doesn't have to be one or another. And I really am looking forward to finding comfort in myself.

Halloween Costume Ideas

With Halloween quickly approaching I thought it would be helpful if I shared some fun costume ideas! At Wake Forest, we have this great event called Project Pumpkin where local kids come and get to trick or treat around different booths on our main quad. It serves as a safe place where kids can go trick or treating. I'm going to be serving as an escort so I have planned a super cute costume! But for those of you procrastinating what costume you should wear here are some super simple ideas.

How cute is this Starbucks cup costume, it's super chic and you can make it yourself. Check out the DIY here

Belle is hands down my favorite princess, and I love how cute and simple this fun costume is! You probably have some similar pieces in your closet already.

If you have a little more time, you can DIY this super fun gumboil machine costume. It is so unique and the colors are so bright and fun.

If you are headed out to a party, I think that these costumes are too cute! They have the simplicity and comfiness perfect for a party, while being still super cute.

What are you going to be for Halloween this year? And follow me on Instagram to see my costume in a few days!

Blue and Green For Fall

Top: Francesca's (Similar)
Jeans: Levi's
Shoes: Target
Watch: Kate Spade

Happy Wednesday! I hope you all are having a great week so far. I just need to make it through today and tomorrow and then I’ll be headed home for the weekend. I can’t wait to see my parents and sister, sleep in my own bed, and eat some good home cooked food. You all can look forward to a recap of that trip coming sometime next week. Today’s outfit is interesting because I’m wearing a very summery top, but the background is very fall. I can’t help that mother nature decided that it would be nice to have a few more days of summer here in the south. Though I’m not complaining because I dread the winter. Growing up in Florida definitely did not give me an appreciation for winter weather. I absolutely love the bright colors of this top, and couldn’t help but wear it one final time before it gets cold. I'm already thinking ahead to the weekend, so are any of you doing anything fun this weekend?

Perfectly Happy

Last night I was sitting in my bed listening to some John Mayer and finishing up some last minute homework when I realized that I am so extremely happy with my life. I love my college life: my friends, my classes, my activities. Everything honestly just seems to fit into place. I think it really is important sometimes to simply take a step back and just look at how awesome life is. Everything may not be perfect, but I love the person that I am. I feel like college has developed me into a better friend, a better student, and a better person in general. I love the fact that I wake up and fall in love with my life all over again every morning. I'm genuinely happy.

Now I wanted to share just a little bit of Monday motivation with all of you:

Simple Sweaters & Perfect Photos

Sweater: J.Crew Factory
Jeans: Levi's
Necklace: J.Crew Factory (Similar)
Shoes: Target

Somedays you just need to play it simple with your favorite comfy sweater. Plus, if you have never experienced the beauty of the J.Crew Teddie Sweater then run to your closest store and buy one. They are the best for fall because they are lightweight and casual. I am tempted to buy all the different colors that they offer. With a long week of tests, I have to say that sometimes fashion is just not my largest priority. Sometimes I just have to accept that I need to be comfortable and be successful. Also, how beautiful is this background, Elizabeth and I ventured farther north on campus and I have to say it was worth it! Plus I think we hit it right at the golden hour. I absolutely love how the photos turned out! What are y'all's favorite photos to see? Do you like simple backgrounds or more elaborate photoshoots? I would love to hear what you think!

Warm Sweaters and Stressful Days

Sweater: Target (Similar)
Pants: Levi's
Shoes: Lucky Brand
Bracelet: Georgie Designs

So you may have noticed that I haven't been posting at my usual time, and I hate to be one to make excuses but college has simply just really been busy. If you read my life update post last week you may have seen that I am involved in a lot of different organizations, but balancing involvement with those plus school work and blogging is serving to be a little bit more difficult than I originally intended. It was especially difficult this week, because usually I am able to get a lot done on the weekend but with family weekend I didn't get as much as I would have liked to done. So anyway, I love blogging and am not planning on disappearing anytime soon, but if the posts aren't up at the usual 7 AM bare with me because they are coming it just may be later. Also, North Carolina decided to get very chilly this week! As a result, I pulled out some of my favorite sweaters, jackets, and puffer vests. This sweater is from Target last year and is sadly not available anymore; it is the best because when you wear it you look super cute but you don't really have to put any effort in at all because the sweater has so much fun detail on its own. But even though this sweater isn't available anymore, I recently bought two solid colored sweaters from Target and they are the softest. I totally recommend! Even though, the last few days have been stressful, I'm so thankful to have this creative outlet to share what is going on! What's up in your guys' life this week, let me know in the comments!
