Sorority Formal

Happy Wednesday! Today is the last day of classes of my freshman year. I can't believe it, it seems like I just moved in. I'll be home in less than a week, and I can't wait to have four months at home. But now on to the main purpose of this post, my sorority formal! My formal was this past Saturday and I thought it would be fun to share what I wore. It was my tie theme, which means your friend chooses a date for you (without you knowing) and then gives you their tie. Then when you guys meet up before, they find you by finding their tie! It's a really cute concept and definitely a fun and different theme.

Unfortunately, it rained the day of formal, so I didn't want to wear the suede heels out. I did manage to wear them for one quick picture before we headed out. I had the hardest time finding a dress that I liked, but Rent the Runway came to the rescue(per usual) and I found this super cute and classic one. Formal was a great break before a week of exams ahead!

Life is Messy and Imperfect

One thing that I have learned since entering college is that life is imperfect but despite that life is wonderful. All the little imperfections about life add up to make something distinctly beautiful. You may get a lower grade than you want on a test, you may get your heart broken by a boy, and you may get betrayed by someone you trust. But at the same time you are going to get the position you've been dreaming of in a club, you are going to laugh with your friends late into the night, and you are going to have days when life just seems to be going your way. That's just how it is, you should celebrate the good but you shouldn't have everything together.

I like to call my mom every day, some days I can't wait to go on and on about how great the day was and other times I want nothing more than for her to be able to give me a big hug and tell me that everything is going to be okay. But I wouldn't want it any other way. I know every challenge is teaching me a lesson and is making me a better version of myself. I want to grow and become the best version of myself that I possibly can.

Go for it, but go for it with no expectations. Apply for the position of your dreams, but don't expect to get it. Go to the party and talk to the boy you like, but don't expect him to like you. Take the chance, take the risk it's worth a shot. Go after what you want but be able to move on when it doesn't work out. That's the messiness of life, going after what you want and getting it sometimes and learning other times.

I know it's hard, sometimes your going to get attached to people, your going to get attached to how things should be. Sometimes you are going to get hurt and while it stinks you will never have to live with the idea of regret. If you don't chase after your dreams how will you ever know if it could have worked out?

I guess the point of this post is to say that life is never going to be perfect, but that doesn't mean it isn't going to be fun and exciting. And more importantly, it is going to shape you into the person you are meant to be. Keep on living because life is crazy but it is always worth the ride.

10 Reasons I'm Glad I Joined a Sorority

Joining a sorority is one of the best decisions I have ever made. It's more than a combination of letters or a full social calendar. It is a friendly face on your walk to class, a good luck text before your big exam, and endless love and support. I can't imagine my life without these girls.

1. Someone Will Always Be There For You
Are you planning a cool event on campus? There will always be a group of sisters willing to come and support what you are doing. Did you have a bad day? Someone will always be there to cheer you up and drink milkshakes and eat candy with you.

2. Academic Help
Study hours, academic mentors, rewards for success: your sisters want you to succeed. Struggling in a class? It's likely someone has taken the same one and would be more than willing to help you. But I think the best thing is having people to recommend which classes and which professors you should take, this is a lifesaver come class registration.

3. You Always Have Something To-Do
I love that since joining my sorority I never feel bored. I always have different things to go to: sisterhood events, mixers, and dinners/lunches. Not only are there all the fun planned events, but more than that someone always wants to do something.

4. Leadership Opportunities
Never have I ever felt more encouraged to take leadership positions or had more opportunities for them. We are constantly encouraged to get involved with the chapter. I love this because I find the more I get involved the more I fall in love with the chapter and my sisters.

5. Finding Forever Friends
I've realized that I'm not going to be great friends with everyone in my chapter but I think everyone is able to find their group within the chapter. I know that the friends I have made will be friends forever because we share similar values.

6. The Connections
Girls in my sorority are involved with almost every organization on campus, someone is always willing to give you an introduction or help you get your foot in the door. But more than that is the connections with people all over the country in your sorority. I've found myself connecting with different people simply because we share the same greek letters.

7. My Big
Another great part of sorority life is having a "family". Your big is the person that will teach you how to be a sorority girl. She'll help you meet people, she'll invite you to events, she'll remind you of things, and she'll help you when you mess up. She's the one you can count on no matter what.

8. Campus Presence
Greek organizations are an important part of the campus community. They participate in every single major campus event. So you always have a team to join for any event and a great group of people to attend with. It's an easy, effortless way that helps you to get involved and connect with your school.

9. Super Cute T-Shirts
^Highly recommend Greek U for super cute shirts like this one!!
Out of any organization, I would have to say that sororities have the cutest shirts. Whether it's the pile of shirts given to you during big little week, an event shirt you just have to have, or a cute shirt from a shop like Greek U. You are guaranteed to be looking absolutely adorable even on your lazy days.

10. LOVE
The greatest part of being in a sorority is the love. Never have I experienced a group that cared for me as much as my sorority sisters do. Whether it's a little thing or a big thing, I always feel cared for and supported.

I hope you all enjoyed this post! I feel so lucky every day to be a part of such an amazing and empowering organization.

Carolina Cup

This weekend I attended the Carolina Cup in Camden, South Carolina. At Wake Forest and most colleges in the south, the Carolina Cup is an excuse for a giant, all day tailgate. It's a fun day to enjoy the warm spring weather, socialize with friends, and watch some horse races. And obviously it's an excuse to put on your favorite dress and floppy hat.

Check out Tall and Preppy for Elisabeth's outfit!!

Despite having to wake up at 5 AM, 4+ plus hours on a bus, and an intense sunburn: I had a great time at the Carolina Cup! I'm so glad that Elisabeth and I were able to find our way onto a bus and experience all the fun.
