Conquering Fear & Doubt

I wanted to write this post because I know I thought about it a lot at this time last year. Despite the fact that I absolutely love my school, there were moments when I doubted my decision to go out of state to college. There were moments when I genuinely wondered if I was making a huge mistake. And there frankly are moments when I wonder if maybe I should transfer. But the reality is I was just scared, I still am scared. Nothing is ever going to be perfect and running away is definitely not a solution.

When you’re about to make a big change especially away from something that is comfortable. Often times you may doubt your decision. I did over and over again. I doubted my decision as I saw all of my friends from high school moving into their dorms together, and if they weren’t at school together they were only a short drive away. But I was moving 5 hours away, knowing that those promised visits would never be carried through and I was starting over alone. I was scared. I doubted my decision as I saw how tiny my dorm room was, I doubted my decision as I had to say goodbye to my parents. But I persevered, I took the leap and I couldn’t be happier that I did.

I got to school and I doubted myself as I struggled to keep up with the heavy work load and still have fun. I felt that maybe I wasn’t smart enough to do well in a competitive school. I felt that maybe I wasn’t outgoing enough to survive in the culture here. I wondered if the expensive tuition was actually worth it. And while some days the doubt did nothing but plague my mind, other days I laughed with my friends and got an A on a paper. Something good always happened, I’d always realize just how much I love the place I get to call home. I’m not going to lie it’s not always easy but no matter how bad it gets I’m always able to find something positive that keeps me going.

I guess the point of this post is simply to let you all know that it’s okay to doubt yourself and question your decisions. But that it is important not to give into fear but to simply embrace it and find the beauty in every situation. Despite my fear and doubt I still have had the most rewarding college experience and I’m so happy that I pushed myself outside of my comfort zone.

For the Love of Gingham

I want to talk about Madewell in this post because honestly, I'm obsessed. Since Madewell is a part of the J.Crew family of brands, I get a discount there and oh my gosh I have just been absolutely loving the pieces I find! Especially all the gingham, in the beginning of the summer I picked up the gingham pull on shorts. I have a love for stretchy shorts so these obviously were a summer necessity for me. But I think the best thing I have picked up is the Whisper Cotton V-Neck Tee, I got it in white and it is the comfiest, softest, most lightweight t-shirt without being see-through. I've been wearing it on repeat since I got it! But my favorite piece and the reason for this post is this super fun gingham skirt. It makes the perfect super cute but fun outfit. I love it for summer but know it will be great for transitioning into fall as well!

I want to know what you all think of Madewell? Do you wear their clothes, do you love their clothes, are they not quite your style: let me know in the comments!

Sophomore Year Dorm Decor

Today's the day I move in for my sophomore year at Wake Forest! I'm so excited and can't believe I'm about to embark on another year at my favorite place. This year I'm moving into an on-campus apartment, I'm so excited to have some more space(our own kitchen, living room, and bathroom). I have 2 roommates, both are girls in my sorority and I think it will be so fun to live together. I thought I would share a sneak peek of my room decor today before I share a full dorm tour in a few weeks. This year I decided to change up my decor and go for a coral, pink, mint, and navy theme inspired by the above PB Teen pillow! I've loved seeing it all come together. Even though I really loved last year's decor I decided to go for something a little less bright and more simple this year. If you want to see a sneak peak of it all put together, make sure to check out my Instagram today. I'll have a picture up as well as share some things on my story!

For all of you headed off to college as well, I'd love to hear about your dorm decor. I'm not going to lie it's definitely one of my favorite parts of going back to school! So please share in the comments below.

The Perfect Summer Dress

In the beginning of the summer, I wrote a summer goals post to try and hold myself accountable to accomplish things over the course of the summer. I was thinking of something to incorporate into this outfit post and thought it would be fun to share a little update on how those goals worked out for me.

My first goal was to run a 5k, and I'll be honest that I did not accomplish this goal. I knew it would be the hardest for me to keep, but the problem is that I could never get into a consistent routine. Working retail and babysitting left me with incredibly unpredictable hours all summer. I ended up with a lot of free time in the middle of the day, which is absolutely miserable for running in the summer. I did run quite a bit but not enough to get myself where I wanted to be. I'm not trying to make excuses I know I could have woken up at 6 AM and gone for a run before work. But I'm not giving up: I'm hoping in college when I have a more consistent routine, I'll be able to find a way to stick with it.

My second goal was all about improving my blog which I think I did this summer! I mostly kept up with posting 5 days a week and I posted almost every single day on Instagram. I worked really hard on improving my blog taking better and more outfit photos. I tried to write inspiring and helpful posts. And while I haven't seen tremendous growth on my blog, I am really happy with it right now.  And to me I think that is all I really want, I love my blog and it makes me excited.

When I wrote goal #3 about falling in love with myself, I wasn't really sure how much I wanted to share about my personal struggles after my freshman year. But in the end, I decided to share it all, because what I did worked for me and I wanted to be able to help others. I feel happier than I've been, I feel confident, and I feel like I am at the center of my life. I don't want to reiterate everything I have already written in this post, so if you want more details on how I rebuilt myself, check out this post!

I think I did a great job with my 4th goal of saving money. I cut down on a lot of impulse purchases. And I only went to Panera once!! Another thing I did was if there was something I wanted to buy I'd think about it for a few days before I purchased. This way I could make sure I really wanted it. Obviously, I couldn't go all summer without buying anything, but I do feel good about the money I saved and the things I did buy. And at the end of the summer, I felt good about being able to purchase things I wanted for my apartment and for back to school.

I thought this would be a fun little update! I think I did pretty well with my summer goals, and I plan to set more for this upcoming semester at school. I think that goals hold you accountable and allow you to visualize the life you want. Did you set summer goals? And if so how did they work out?
