Why I Love Working Retail + a Perfect Work Outfit

As some of you may know I have spent the summer working at J.Crew Factory. I never expected to love it as much as I do. I never expected that at the end of the summer I would be dying to transfer to the store up by my school. I never expected that I would be dreading my last day of work. But here I am after a wonderful experience working retail, here to share with you all why I loved it.

I think the number one reason that I loved my job was that I love fashion and I love the J.Crew brand. Getting to be surrounded by clothes I love, help customers put together outfits, and get first looks at new products is a thrill. I was passionate about the clothes that I was trying to sell because I wear and love them. Plus I loved getting to dress up for work, trying to find new ways to style clothes to encompass the J.Crew image. So in my opinion, if you are considering working at a store you should pick one in which you love the clothes. I'd been wearing J.Crew for years before working there.

Another reason I really enjoyed my job was that the people were amazing. Not only were the other sales associates friendly and fun to be around but the management team was great. They had been working there for years and they really know how to run a store. I guess that's probably why I'm sad for my last day to come around, I'll miss the great people. But who knows maybe I'll be back for holiday!

Obviously working at J.Crew comes with a discount. I'm not going to say what the discount is but I will say it is pretty great. You also get the discount at all of the J.Crew stores, so J.Crew, J.Crew Factory, and Madewell. It definitely is a good incentive to buy things which I think is great because I can't count the number of times, I have been wearing something and someone asks about it and buys the same thing. Wearing the clothes truly does sell the clothes.

But finally, I loved working at J.Crew because it pushed me. I often times had to do things for the job that I would rather have not done, but those things often resulted in the most fun times or the most rewarding shift. Our store does night roll out, so all of our new stuff comes in at night and we stay until 1 AM getting it all censored and ready to go out. While it really isn't that great to stay at work until 1 AM often times it was a lot of fun and I got to see all of the new clothes. I also was asked to come in at 5 AM once to help clean the store, that wasn't the most fun but seeing the store super clean and organized felt rewarding.

Working retail isn't a perfect job: yes sometimes customers are rude, sometimes you have to refold a pile of t-shirts 5 times because people keep messing it up, and sometimes the shifts are long and your feet hurt but honestly these things are largely outweighed by the amazing benefits of working retail. I wouldn't trade my experience for anything. And I truly am so happy I get to continue working there this school year.

Top: J.Crew Factory // Pants: Francesca's(Similar) // Watch: Daniel Wellington // Sandals: MIA(Similar)

Let's talk about this top for a minute. When I first saw it, I immediately thought this is me in a shirt. The fun ruffle and the the light blue color with the navy piping, I knew I had to have it. I know the ruffle is a little much for some people, but I think it's such a fun statement. I put this outfit in this post because I wanted to share an outfit that I would wear to work! Most of the time I'm wearing a nice short sleeve top(like this one) or a button down with jeans or white pants. I always try to wear a watch to work because I like to know what time it is while I'm out working on the floor. And these sandals have been a work staple for me because they are just so comfy for being on your feet for a long period of time! I hope you all enjoyed this insight into the life of a J.Crew Factory employee, if you have any other questions please feel free to leave them in the comments!
