Big-Little Reveal Preparation Tips

One of my favorite weeks this past semester was Big-Little Reveal Week, where I got my perfect little Lauren (read about it here)! I absolutely loved getting to spoil her, my identity hidden behind a slew of fake clues. I know I spent a lot of time preparing for the week and I thought it would be fun to share what I did as well as some tips for those of you who are preparing to get your own littles this upcoming fall!

Tip #1: Pass Things Down
Save yourself both time and money and pass down some stuff that your big gave you! There's probably lots of stuff you don't use that much and even stuff that you'd be willing to pass down on to the newest member of your fam. Plus passing stuff down is a super fun tradition.

Tip #2: Craft!
Another great way to save money is to make stuff. A cute painted picture frame or a pin box is something so cute but also useful and really easy to paint. Even if your not the most crafty, it will mean a lot to your little that you took the time to make them something.

Tip #3: Splurge on a Few Things
I thought it was nice to get a few nicer things for my little, as fun as the Target dollar section knick knacks are they really only need so many little things. Paying a little more for a pretty necklace or a cute bracelet will be worth it for something they'll be able to keep for much longer.

Tip #4: Get Other Things
As fun as it is for your little to get lots of sorority themed things, it's fun to surprise them with some other stuff as well. Get them something to match their hobbies or their favorite TV show. This will also show just how much you know about them and care about their interests.

Tip #5: Get Matching Shirts
One of the things that I think makes for the best big-little reveal is matching t-shirts. You can order lots of fun matching ones on Etsy or other websites but I decided to make my own with these iron-on decals. This allowed me to get the exact look I wanted with my shirts!

I hope this post was helpful for those of you preparing for your own littles! I could go on for days with all my tips but I think this is a pretty good wrap up. A couple final tips: utilize decorations and don't be afraid to send your little some other surprises (I had friends deliver doughnuts one day and then a pizza another day. Are you getting a little this fall? If so let me know what you've been doing to prepare!

Norwegian Getaway: Trip Recap

This summer my grandpa decided to take my whole family on a cruise! We went on the Norwegian Getaway for 7 days, traveling to Mexico, Belize, and Honduras. It was a really great time and I thought it would be fun to do a short recap of our trip here.

Day 1 & 2: At Sea
Dress: Francesca's (old!) // Necklace: Brook & York

Dress: Red Dress Boutique (old! see it here) // Necklace: Love Always Couture
We departed from Port Miami. The view of the city was gorgeous as the ship set out to sea for our 7-day adventure. We spent most of the first day exploring the ship and the second day was mostly spent lounging by the pool.

Day 3: Costa Maya, Mexico
Top: H& M (old!) // Shorts: J.Crew Factory // Sunglasses: J.Crew Factory (old! been my go-to sunglasses for years) // Shoes: Jack Rogers

Swim Top: Old Navy // Swim Bottoms: Target (Old!) // Sunglasses: J.Crew Factory (old! been my go-to sunglasses for years)

We docked for our first stop, where we headed off the ship for a fun day enjoying the beach. While shopping around the downtown we were even able to find my favorite, flamingos!

Day 4: Belize
Coverup: J.Crew Factory // Sunglasses: J.Crew Factory (old! been my go-to sunglasses for years)

Bathing Suit: J.Crew Factory // Sunglasses: J.Crew Factory (old! been my go-to sunglasses for years)

Top: Madewell // Bralette: Hollister // Shorts: Madewell (old!) // Sunglasses: J.Crew Factory (old! been my go-to sunglasses for years)
Our second stop was Norwegian's private island off the coast of Belize. It was so nice and we were able to enjoy the beach, some shops, and even ziplining. It was definitely one of my favorite days!

Day 5: Honduras
Tank: Nordstrom (old! have actually had this tank forever) // Shorts: J.Crew Factory // Sunglasses: J.Crew Factory (old! been my go-to sunglasses for years)

Bathing Suit: Aerie (old! See it here)
We then headed to Honduras where we spent the day at a sloth and monkey farm and then snorkeling. It was another full & fun-filled day. And I never thought that I would be able to hold a sloth or have a monkey jump on my head.

Day 6: Cozumel, Mexico

Dress: Lilly Pulitzer (no longer available :( it's the Dusk Shift)

Dress: Lilly Pulitzer (no longer available :( it's the Dusk Shift) // Shoes: Macy's
We didn't end up getting off the ship when we docked in Cozumel as it was kind of a rainy morning. The weather did get better as the day progressed. Instead, we lounged around and I enjoyed a good book.

Day 7: At Sea
Dress: J.Crew Factory (old! see it here) // Necklace: Love Always Couture
I spent my final day on the ship, lounging by the pool. One of my favorite things about the cruise was all the yummy food and having an excuse to dress up for dinner every night. And even better than dinner was the beautiful sunsets we were greeted with every single night.

I hope you enjoyed this quick recap of my trip! It was definitely a major highlight of my summer and my life. I just don't think any amount of photos or words could really describe just how much fun it was! Do you all have any fun trips planned this summer?

Just Slow Down

The other night I was having a sleepy conversation over text before drifting off to bed and I realized something that changed my thinking. The message was from someone who was so purely enjoying life simply because they knew how to make the best of the moment they were in. And that's when I realized so often we are rushing to something else instead of enjoying the present moment we are in. We've all done it, we're all rushing to get to Friday or to summer or to some other position in life. We think oh things will be so much better if I can get to this point or that point. Or maybe you've been dreaming of something and think if you just have it then everything will be okay. Then before we know it in the midst of all the running and rushing, we've missed out on so many of the little moments that make life worth living.

So sometimes you just need to slow down. You just need to say you know what, I can't wait for that point, but I'm also so happy to be right where I am right now. For me, I'm always rushing to get back to school in the fall, to be reunited with all my friends and the place I love. But often times I brush over the little moments from my summer at home, like Sunday afternoon trips to the grocery store with my mom or trips to the lake or just lounging and reading by the pool. Those things should not be a means to pass the time but to enjoy, that conversation with your mom as you walk down the ice cream aisle and that hello to your neighbor and her adorable baby girl as you relax by the pool.

Life becomes so much more meaningful when you enjoy every little bit of beauty that it has to offer you. Chase after your dreams and what you want but don't be afraid to enjoy yourself along the way. And sometimes letting things have the time and space they need can make them even stronger in the end. It's amazing how much less complicated and beautiful the journey becomes when you just slow down and trust that what you want will come around in due time. So breathe in, breathe out, and slow down.
